All franchised Sunset Grill breakfast restaurants across Ontario, Canada participate in an Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser event on Shrove Tuesday, where we serve our signature buttermilk pancakes for only $1. We do this in support of Canadian Cancer Society programs and research, and to raise awareness for the cause. A $1 contribution is made to the Canadian Cancer Society from each Sunset Grill pancake sold.

Our next Pancake Tuesday event will take place on Tuesday March 4, 2025.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our valued guests, dedicated franchisees, and amazing staff members who have contributed to this very important initiative since the launch of the campaign in 2009. Together we have raised more than $191,000 for the cause and Canadians living with cancer.

A special mention goes out to our incredible suppliers Waffles International and Lynch for donating product to the event. We wouldn’t be where we are today without your unwavering support.

Does 100% of proceeds go to the Canadian Cancer Society?

Yes! 100% of proceeds from regular (plain) pancake sales on Pancake Tuesday are donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Is there a limit to how many pancakes you can purchase for $1?

No. Regular (plain) pancakes are sold for $1 each and there is no limit to the amount of pancakes you can purchase at this price on Pancake Tuesday. *Regular (plain) pancakes only. There is an additional charge for blueberry or chocolate chip pancakes.

Can I order pancakes for take-out?

Yes! Our delicious pancakes are available for take-out for $1 each. Pick-up only; no delivery.

How much do toppings cost?

Pancake toppings are extra based on menu pricing. Dark chocolate chips, fresh strawberries, strawberry preserves, fresh blueberries, blueberry preserves, whipped cream, pure Canadian maple syrup and chocolate hazelnut spread are available for purchase.

Can I place a group order?

Yes! Group orders must be placed at your local Sunset Grill restaurant in advance (no earlier than February 7, 2025) and received before February 28, 2025. The minimum quantity for pre-orders is 25 pancakes.

Do you serve dairy-free pancakes?

Unfortunately, no, we do not. We serve buttermilk pancakes which contain dairy. We do not have a vegan or dairy-free pancake option available at this time.

History

2023

After a three-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Sunset Grill was able to resume it’s annual Pancake Tuesday fundraiser on February 21, 2023. With your help, we raised $25,000 to support Canadians living with cancer and their families. Thank you to our franchise owners, team members, community partners and guests for making this campaign a success.

2020

On February 25, Sunset Grill hosted it’s 12th Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Together, we were able to raise $22,961 for the cause. Thank you to our hardworking team members, franchise owners, customers and suppliers for continuing to support the initiative.

2019

Back and stronger than ever, Sunset Grill’s 11th Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser in support of the Canadian Cancer Society earns national coverage. Juice Concepts, Sunset Grill’s fresh squeezed juice supplier, contributes to the initiative by donating $1 to the Canadian Cancer Society for every glass of fresh squeezed orange juice sold at Sunset Grill franchised locations across Ontario the day of the event. Thanks to the incredible support of our guests and community partners, we raised $42,000 (almost double last year’s amount!) for the cause.

2018 – 10 Years Strong

2018 marks Sunset Grill’s 10^th Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. The CCS bestowed the company with a Corporate Champion Award for Community Impact for donating more than $100,000 to help fuel the work of the country’s leading cancer charity. We couldn’t have done it without the support of our superstar staff members, dedicated franchisees, valued guests, and community partners. Thank you for your commitment to the cause.

2017 – Making a Difference

With more than 68 locations across Ontario, Sunset Grill elevates the Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser by tripling previous contribution year amounts, donating a total of $22,100 in 2017. Vendor partner Waffles International continues to donate product (pancake mix) to the initiative in support of the Canadian Cancer Society.

2015 – In Appreciation

Sunset Grill is formally recognized for its contributions towards the fight against cancer with an appreciation certificate presented by the Canadian Cancer Society. More than $34,800 has been donated to the cause since the launch of Sunset Grill’s Annual Pancake Tuesday Fundraiser in 2009.

2010-2014 – Growing Support

Sunset Grill’s Pancake Tuesday event becomes an annual tradition. More than $27,600 is donated to the Canadian Cancer Society from 2010-2014 to help fund important research and life-saving treatments for Canadians living with cancer.

2009 – In the Beginning

For more than 25 years, the community had graciously supported Sunset Grill and it was our turn to give back. The first Sunset Grill Pancake Tuesday event happened on February 24, 2009. Dubbed the “Sunset Grill Looney Pancake Charity Event,” pancakes were sold for $1 and all proceeds from pancake sales that day were donated to the Canadian Cancer Society. All 21 Sunset Grill locations across Ontario participated and together we were able to raise $5,000 for the cause.

Corporate Champion Award for Community Impact

In celebration of Sunset Grill’s 10th annual Pancake Tuesday event in 2018, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) presented Sunset Grill with a Corporate Champion Award for Community Impact. This award recognizes valued partners of the CCS that have made a significant contribution to raising funds and promoting awareness to the cause.

Our pancake syrup supplier, Lynch, has graciously donated pancake syrup to every Sunset Grill restaurant in support of the event since 2018.
