Breakfast Moms – Mona

Have you met Mona?

Mona is the passion behind our King City Sunset Grill location. She’s a hard-working, dedicated family-first woman who is hungry for more. Like many of our franchisees, Mona’s story began when she was dining in one of our restaurants.

“I was having breakfast one day, back in 2012, at the Vaughan Mills [location], with my husband,” she explains. “I fell in love with the operation. I saw the owner, how he was interacting with the customers… everybody was pleasant.” She then thought to herself, “Maybe this is something I want to pursue.” Fast forward to present day – they just celebrated the store’s two-year anniversary.

Some nights you can even find Mona in the restaurant after-hours making sure everything is in its place and ready for the next day. “I love every minute spent here,” she boasts. “The slow days and the busy days. I love the customers, the interactions, and Sundays, because I get to work with my family.” Her three children – two sons and a daughter – work in the restaurant alongside Mona on Sundays, and it’s something that’s very special to her.

Her staff has become an extension of her family as well, which allows the restaurant to run like a well-oiled machine. It’s that personalized touch and stellar service that keep guests coming back for more. “We know our customers by name; they tell us it feels like home when they’re here.”

With Mother’s Day on the horizon, Mona and her team are gearing up for another busy day. In an effort to make moms feel extra special, they will be handing out carnations to all of the mothers and moms-to-be that celebrate their special day at Sunset Grill. “On our last Mother’s Day, after we finished our shift, all of us were here…I was still in the zone of working, and [my kids] all stopped me to wish me a happy Mother’s Day,” Mona joyfully recalls. “[My kids] gave me a hug and a kiss, and that was rewarding…to have them beside me after a hard-working day.” Mona feels like she gets to celebrate Mother’s Day every day she works alongside her family, and it was their words of encouragement, “Mom – you did it!” that really stuck with her that day.

“I put my heart and soul into this business,” she quips with pride. Mona is proof that when you’re armed with a positive attitude, passion for your craft, and an incredible support system by your side – anything is possible.

Mona is the first in our series highlighting Breakfast Moms – the strong and talented women that make up the many faces of the Sunset Grill family.

The next time you stop by for breakfast or lunch at our King City Sunset Grill, be sure to say hi to Mona!
