OAKVILLE, ONTARIO, Feb. 2, 2017 –  Sunset Grill will be serving pancakes for $1 each on February 28, 2017 as part of their 9th annual Pancake Tuesday Campaign with all of the proceeds being donated to the Canadian Cancer Society.

A total of $22,100 was donated to the Canadian Cancer Society in 2017.

All 68 franchised locations across Ontario and Alberta will be participating in the event. “It’s always been important for us to be able to contribute to local as well as national charitable initiatives,” said Angelo Christou, Founder and CEO of Sunset Grill Restaurants Ltd. “The Pancake Tuesday Campaign was a natural pairing and opportunity for us to give back in a meaningful way.” Sunset Grill has raised and donated more than $50,000 to the cause since in 2009.  In 2016, Sunset Grill raised about $15,000 for the cause.

“It has been amazing to see the partnership evolve over the years with Sunset Grill,” said Brennan Stang, Senior Coordinator, Independent Fundraising Events at the Canadian Cancer Society. “As Sunset Grill has expanded across the country, so has Pancake Tuesday and its impact in the fight against cancer.” The initiative has not only helped raise funds, but also awareness about the research and support services that are available to patients across Canada.

“The proceeds from Sunset Grill have gone to support many great things in the fight against cancer,” said Stang. “For example, a $10,000 gift allows two cancer patients to participate in a clinical trial to test potentially life-saving treatments.” A portion of the donation money has also gone towards funding the Canadian Cancer Society’s “Wheels of Hope” transportation program for cancer patients in Ontario who have no means of travelling to receive the care they need.

Sunset Grill has been dedicated to the cause year after year and hopes to bring their loyal regulars and new customers in to not only show their support, but also enjoy a hearty breakfast in the process. “All of our lives are touched by cancer in some way and the Society relies on donations from our amazing community to help make our work possible,” said Stang. “Thank you to all who have supported our work.”
