A Heart for the Community: How Sunset Grill in St. Catharines is Making a Difference

At Sunset Grill on Welland Avenue in St. Catharines, serving up fresh, delicious breakfast is just the beginning of what they bring to the table. Behind the scenes, franchise owner Joney and his team are deeply committed to giving back to the local community in meaningful ways.
This past Pancake Tuesday, the Welland Ave. location participated in Sunset Grill’s national fundraiser by going above and beyond the call of duty. Joney generously donated the cost of $500 worth of pancakes to support EI McCulley School’s Pancake Day celebration, helping ensure that students could enjoy the beloved breakfast tradition together. It’s a gesture that brought smiles to dozens of young faces and highlighted just how powerful a simple meal can be when shared.
This initiative aligns with Sunset Grill’s national Pancake Tuesday fundraiser, where locations across Canada flip pancakes in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. It’s a tradition that celebrates giving back, and Joney’s efforts at the Welland Avenue Sunset Grill perfectly embody the spirit of this cause: serving up kindness and community, one pancake at a time. Joney’s generosity doesn’t stop there.
He also lends a helping hand to the Northend Church Downtown Outreach program, which supports individuals experiencing homelessness in the St. Catharines area. Alongside a team of dedicated volunteers, Joney regularly donates homemade soup and pancakes, providing comfort, warmth, and nourishment to those in need. Not only does he prepare and deliver food, he also makes the time to personally visit the outreach events, connecting with guests and offering kindness and encouragement to those who need it most. In fact, at a recent event, two guests shared that his soup was the best they ever had in the 15 months of hot meals that have been served at the program and one guest said it was the best they ever had in their life.
At Sunset Grill, we believe in serving more than just breakfast; we believe in serving our communities. Joney’s dedication to helping children, students, and vulnerable individuals is a true reflection of that philosophy. We’re incredibly proud of the work being done at our Welland Avenue, St. Catharines Sunset Grill location and grateful to have people like Joney representing the Sunset Grill brand.
Thank you to the St. Catharines community for your continued support and to Joney and his team for going above and beyond to make a difference.
