Have you met Jen?

Jen is a kind and humble server who works at our Brockville Sunset Grill restaurant. She’s been in the industry for more than three decades and brings with her a wealth of experience and personal touch when it comes to guest relations.

“In this restaurant, I like the hustle and bustle, it’s fast-paced,” she shares. “You get to know people. We have a lot of regular customers.”

Jen has memorized most of her regulars’ orders, she laughs, and when they walk through the door, they don’t even have to order, she just brings them exactly what they want.

She joined the Brockville Sunset Grill team on a part-time basis back in September 2022 and has made a home for herself there. “I like the people; I like to interact.”

When she’s not busy with the hustle and bustle of the restaurant, she also works part time in the home health care field and truly enjoys helping others.

Jen understands, perhaps more than most, the power of approaching everything with a positive attitude, recently having battled breast cancer. “I didn’t know I was sick when I got sick,” she shares.

“I stayed positive the whole time,” Jen continues. “I’m pretty tough.” She understood that getting negative about it wasn’t going to help her in her journey towards recovery.

She was off work for almost a year undergoing treatment and has now become somewhat of an advocate for women and encourages them to get tested early.

“Everyone here was very supportive the whole time I was off, and since I got back,” Jen says. “My kids were very supportive; it was hard on them.”

She finds solace in the simple things in life, such as reading or spending time with her two adult children, Dylan, 30, and Courtney, who is turning 28. It’s been the most rewarding job she’s ever had, being a mom.

“I am thankful that I’m a mom,” says Jen. “I wouldn’t change a thing about what 30 years has given me.”

She’s looking forward to travelling somewhere warm once she gets the OK from her doctor.

“I am taking things one day at a time,” Jen shares.
